Wine Cellar Cooling Systems: Maintain the Temperature Inside Your Wine Cellar

A balance of temperature and humidity is critical for the proper storage and aging of wine. Temperature affects the rate of maturation while the right humidity keeps corks in good shape. Excess moisture can lead to mold or fungal contaminations while a room that is too dry can cause corks to shrink, leading to the oxidization of wine. You can protect your investment by providing the ideal cellar environment with a state-of-the-art Wine-Mate wine cellar refrigeration system. Select from self-contained, split or ducted cooling systems, all designed specifically for proper wine storage.

Wine-Mate cooling units are proudly designed and assembled in the USA in our Henderson, NV facility.

What is a Split Cooling System

Wine-Mate’s Split Cooling Units are known for their efficiency and longevity. Each unit is designed to maintain a consistent temperature and humidity in spaces where proper ventilation is not feasible. The evaporator is installed inside and the condensing unit can be placed as far as 75 feet away. Since it exhausts outside, split cooling systems operate quietly and reduce vibration inside the cellar, which is believed to negatively affect the quality of wine. Here are some of the additional features:

  • Multiple options of air-cooled or water-cooled condensing unit can suit various applications
  • Sleek design keeps the unit relatively hidden inside a wine cellar or cabinet
  • Can be ceiling mounted, rack mounted, or floor mounted
  • Maintains the ideal environment for long-term wine storage
  • Optional low ambient kit, temperature control panel with heating function, wine bottle probe, and digital controller

What is a Ducted Cooling System

Powerful ducted cooling systems allow you to create the perfect environment for long-term wine storage without the eyesore of a visible cooling unit inside the cellar. Using ventilation ducts, the wine cellar cooling system is installed outside. Ducted systems also produce the least amount of vibrations making them the safest and quietest choice for your wine cellar. Here are some of the additional benefits:

  • Sleek design keeps the unit relatively hidden and allows for flexibility of installation
  • Multiple options of split or package ducted cooling systems can suit various applications
  • Select units have a coverage size up to 3300 cubic feet
  • Optional low ambient kit, temperature control panel with heating function, wine bottle probe, and digital controller

WINE CELLAR COOLING SYSTEM

Q: What is the best wine cellar cooling unit?
A: The best wine cellar cooling unit is one that will keep your wine collection under the best conditions. Wine cellar cooling units may be installed in a wine cellar or wine cabinet. The wine cellar must have proper insulation, doors, and seals to ensure the room maintains the proper temperature and the cellar cooling system can run efficiently. Similarly, a wine cabinet used in conjunction with a cellar cooling system will be sufficiently insulated and sealed. There are many different types of cellar cooling systems designed for a variety of installations. No matter which unit you select, it will ideally maintain a consistent temperature of 55◦F while maintaining relative humidity between 50-75◦RH.

Q: How do you cool a wine cellar?
A: There are two main types of wine cellars: passive and active. A passive wine cellar is one that maintains the temperature and humidity naturally. To prevent temperature swings, these passive wine cellars are located inside caves or underground. An active wine cellar uses a cooling system to maintain the conditions inside the wine room. Cellar cooling systems include self-contained cooling units, split systems, and ducted cooling systems. The cooling unit type may be determined by several factors, including the amount of space to cool, the cellar location, and the ambient conditions outside the wine room.

Q: How do wine cellar cooling units work?
A: Cellar cooling units consist of two parts; the cooling system or evaporator and the condensing unit. In a self-contained system, these two units are housed together. The evaporator discharges cold air into the cellar or cabinet. The condensing unit or exterior unit exhausts any hot air captured by the cooling system and is typically located outside of the wine room.

Q: What temperature should a wine cellar be?
A: Wine is delicate and requires specific conditions to age properly. The ideal temperature for wine is 55◦F with relative humidity between 50-75◦F.
