Do I Need a Dual Zone Wine Refrigerator?

A dual zone wine cooler has two independent temperature zones. Most wine collectors start with a single zone wine refrigerator and as they develop a taste for a more diverse selection of wine find that they need a dual zone cooler. This is because each type of wine has its ideal storage temperature. For example, Pinot Noir prefers a range between 60-64◦F while a Pinot Grigio should be stored 45-48◦F. By having a multi zone unit, you ensure you are maintaining the quality and taste of your wine.

What is the difference between Thermoelectric and Compressor Based Cooling?

If you have a smaller collection and do not want to install your wine refrigerator undercounter, a thermoelectric wine cooler may be the best fit as these units are engineered to be freestanding. Thermoelectric units are designed for vibration-free/quiet operation because they have little to no moving parts. When installed properly, they are nearly silent. Thermoelectric coolers do not use coolants that are hazardous to the environment, which is why they are considered more environmentally friendly than compressor units. In general, thermoelectric coolers are less expensive to purchase.

If you have a larger collection and would like to install your wine refrigerator built-in to existing cabinetry or undercounter, a compressor-based wine refrigerator is a smart purchase. While these powerful units are not as quiet as their thermoelectric counterparts, they can reach and maintain colder temperatures even when the ambient temperature is warmer. Additionally, while the initial purchase of a thermoelectric cooler is cheaper, compressor-based coolers are less expensive to operate.

Dual zone wine fridges are available with either thermoelectric or compressor cooling systems.

Additional Features of Vinotemp Dual Zone Wine Coolers

In addition to two independent temperature zones, Vinotemp’s coolers also have many beneficial features. Some units are panel-ready, which means you may update the door to match surrounding cabinetry, giving your space a more seamless look. Many units feature dynamic cooling/silent mode, allowing for quieter operation. A digital control panel makes it easy to turn the lights on/off as well as monitor and adjust temperature. Sleek modern racking options include wire racking, wire racking with wood lip, label forward VinBo racks, and more. Select models feature Vinotemp BioBlu lighting which can reduce the growth of bacteria or mold inside the cooler.
