Before you buy
The questions we get asked every week
Still not sure? A specialist who has spec'd a few hundred cellars will take the call.
Cellar volume is only the start — glazing, insulation, ceiling height, the wall the cellar shares with a kitchen and your local climate all move the number. The heat load calculators ask for each of those and return a BTU figure, then we match units to it. Sizing on bottle count alone is the single most common mistake.
If you have an adjacent room to exhaust into and the cellar is under about 1,000 cubic feet, self-contained is the cheapest and quickest. If noise matters or there is nowhere to vent, go split. If nothing may be visible inside the cellar — glass rooms especially — ducted is the answer.
